APR vs APY Explained
APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is the simple interest rate without compounding. APY (Annual Percentage Yield) is the effective return when interest compounds over the year. The more frequently interest compounds, the higher the APY relative to APR.
Formula: APY = (1 + APR/n)^n − 1, where n is the number of compounding periods per year.
